The Golden Globes is one of the craziest awards shows in Hollywood. It is the only awards ceremony that serves their guests alcohol, so we often get to see our favorite Hollywood stars looking a little tipsy which is so much fun to watch. The Golden Globes are known for giving out awards for excellence in film and television, but that is not the only thing it was known for this year. This year, the focus around the Globes was on the Time’s Up Movement.

This movement focuses on the discrimination, harassment, and abuse of women across all industries all over the world. As stated on their website, “TIME’S UP is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere. From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live”. The movement was founded by 300 women in Hollywood including Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Emma Watson, and many more. This call for change picked up a lot of buzz at the Globes when most of the actors and actresses in attendance wore black in solidarity with the movement. They explained that the black was symbolizing their support for those women who have been harassed or discriminated against in the workplace. They also posted on social media with the hashtags #TimesUp and #WhyIWearBlack. Many people at home were also encouraged to wear black to show their support. The movement has arisen now at the Golden Globes in light of all of the sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood recently. Many of the female speakers during the show also gave heart-wrenching speeches about the inequality and how it must change. One of these speakers was Oprah Winfrey in her speech after winning the Cecil B. DeMille Award. This speech also led many people to question if Oprah is going to run for President in the 2020 election. It was just that powerful of a speech.

Overall this movement is extremely powerful and has the ability to touch many lives. It urges everyone to stand up against what you think isn’t right and start making a change. If you wish to visit any of the Time’s Up social media accounts, the links are all below as well as Oprah’s acceptance speech.
